Recent Church Activities – New Year’s Singing at Church

I enjoy ending a calendar year by being at church. And we had (at my home church, Bethany Primitive Baptist Church), we hosted a New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day special singing and fellowship.

The attendance was good, around 80, with many guests from other churches and states. Also, many of the attendees were young people (high school/college aged).

We were blessed to have two men there that are singing teachers. The goal was to learn to sing A Capella – reading notes and timing of songs from our hymn book.

On New Year’s Eve, we had supper at 5 pm, followed by many sessions of “singing school”. They would take long breaks and come back into the lunch room for snacks and fellowship. A visiting preacher preached from 9 pm to 10 pm. At midnight, we sang out the old year, and into the new year.

New Year’s Day, breakfast was served, singing practice in the morning, followed by lunch. There was a short session after lunch.

It was a blessed time for all, great fellowship, and educational in learning how to sing hymns of praise to our God. It was uplifting to see so many young people, being together in such a “healthy” environment.

My main role was to help out in the kitchen and eating area. For lunch on New Year’s Day, I grilled 9 packages of hot dogs.

What a blessing…
